yin yoga

Woman practicing yoga on a mat in a sunlit room with shadows.

Yin is the stable, unmoving, hidden aspect of an object. Yang is the changing, moving, revealing aspect of an object. These two aspects always coexist~there is never one without the other.

Excersises that create a gentle traction of the connective tissue are yin. As important it is for our physical and mental well being to be strong, it is not the muscular strength that gives us the feeling of ease and lightness in the body, it is the flexibility in our joints.

If we never bend our knees and stretch our spines, the connective tissue is going to shorten to accommodate our movements. If we want to maintain our joints flexibility, we must exercise them. But we should not exercise them like muscles, we must exercise them in a yin way.

~Paul Grilley

In Yin, the muscles must be relaxed.  We use gravity and props, comfy bolsters and blankets so you can settle into the first edge. And then be still. Postures are held from 3-12 minutes. This is not a restorative yoga class.

Deep Rest and restore

Deep Rest: A 3-Week Restorative Healing Series

In a world that constantly asks us to move faster, this 3-week series invites you to slow down, soften, and truly rest.

Deep Rest combines three powerful healing modalities—restorative yoga, assisted stretch therapy, and Reiki—to help calm the nervous system, release stored tension, and bring the body back into balance.

Restorative yoga is less about effort and more about surrender. Using bolsters, blankets, and supportive props, you'll settle into fully supported postures designed to gently guide the body out of chronic stress patterns and into deep relaxation. This practice helps shift the body from the sympathetic nervous system—our "fight or flight" state—into the parasympathetic nervous system, often called the "rest and digest" state, where true healing, repair, and restoration can occur.

As you rest in each posture, RaShaun Spencer (Ray), Human Performance Specialist, will provide gentle assisted stretch therapy to help muscles and fascia soften naturally, creating greater ease, mobility, circulation, and spaciousness throughout the body. Rather than forcing flexibility, his work focuses on releasing holding patterns, unwinding tension, and helping the body feel safe enough to let go.

Throughout the practice, Jen Darling, Licensed Spiritual Healer, Reiki Master Teacher, and Yin Yoga Instructor, will guide you through meditation while offering Reiki energy healing to support deep relaxation, energetic balance, and emotional well-being. Together, these modalities create a deeply restorative experience that nurtures both the physical and energetic body.

The result is a quiet, candlelit space where stress softens, breath deepens, and the body remembers how to rest.

To preserve the intimate and personalized nature of this experience, enrollment is intentionally limited to 10 participants, ensuring that everyone receives individual attention throughout class.

Perfect for anyone feeling overwhelmed, physically depleted, emotionally exhausted, or simply craving stillness.

new moon yin and special events: eclipse and winter solstice

New Moon Yin is a monthly yin yoga gathering held on Tuesday night, the week of each new moon at The Cauldron Café in Covington, KY. Each 75-minute class is thoughtfully inspired by the energy and personality of the current new moon and includes deep yin yoga, meditation, and reflective journal prompts to continue your practice at home. This is a space to slow down, root deeply, become clear, release what no longer serves, and reset beneath the energy of the dark moon.
